General Description: Basil is an aromatic herb widely cultivated in Colombia and is used in both domestic and export cuisines. It is known for its distinctive aroma and flavor, making it an essential ingredient in many cuisines around the world.
Quality Requirements
- Appearance: Basil leaves should be fresh, green and without signs of discoloration or damage.
- Aroma: It should have a fresh and characteristic aroma of basil.
- Size: No leaves should be too large or too small; medium-sized leaves are preferred.
- Consistency: Leaves should be tender and free of signs of wilting.
Basil is usually packed in food grade cardboard boxes. Leaves are placed in layers separated by absorbent paper to avoid moisture accumulation and mechanical damage during transport. It is important that the boxes are properly labeled with information about the product, net weight, packing date and origin.
Storage Requirements: Basil should be stored in a cool, dry place to maintain its freshness and aroma. The ideal storage temperature is approximately 10-12°C and exposure to direct sunlight should be avoided.
